Bank Mitra – are those individuals who act as agent of the bank place where it is not possible to open a brick and mortar branch of the bank. Bank Mitra basically acts like the representatives of banks and provides all kind of assistance in opening an account under PMJDY initiative. Business Correspondent Agents are more popularly known as Bank Mitra essentially helps people in all the problems which may occur during opening of bank accounts under PMJDY.

The main duties of Bank Mitra are as follows-

  • To generate awareness regarding saving and offering advice on managing money & debt related issues.
  • To identify the potential of customer among the crowd & generate business opportunity.
  • To enrolment and collect/verify forms need to open a bank accounts.
  • To help customers in filling & submitting application forms.
  • To collect/accept the payment of small value of deposit.
  • To provide the details of bank account like mini statement.
  • To provide the any kind of support on behalf of the bank i.e. pension & insurance products.


Who can become Bank Mitra?

There in no such eligibility criteria for becoming a Bank Mitra, any individuals who has completed 18 years can become a Bank Mitra, there are few person who will get a preference over others for becoming a Bank Mitra-

  • Retired bank employee.
  • Retired teacher.
  • Retired govt. /private employee.
  • Ex. Servicemen.
  • Individual, owners of Kirana/ medical/ fair price shop/ public call office (PCO) operators, agent of small saving scheme of govt./ insurance companies.

Business Correspondence Agent (BCA)/CSP Eligibility

  • Minimum 12th pass.
  • ID Proof with Photograph
  • Pan card - Mandatory
  • Qualification certificate – 12th pass certificate
  • Address proof – Voter Id, Ration card, Passport, any Government bill – Electricity, Phone
  • Shop/outlet/kiosk address proof (In case where the BC has a separate shop / office)
  • Appointment Letter from CBC
  • IBL account Number
  • Police Verification
  • Uniform (Cap, Jacket & Bag)

Note - He/she should be local / native of allocated SSA/Ward & well known.


  • As part of the initial phase, we have already trained all the corporate BC supervisors under train the trainer module, under various subjects like: account opening, basics of banking, Financial Inclusion and Jan Dhan Yojana, in conjunction with technical classroom training imparted.
  • In compliance with directives from Finance Ministry, a training calendar has been prepared for entire 240 BC’s and the accreditation is at par with Indian Institute of Banking & Finance’s (IIBF) BC certification course, the training is scheduled to be completed by December, 2015.
